Pablo Ortega Pitcher del año
Luego de liderar el rol regular en juegos ganados y en porcentaje de carreras limpias admitidas, Pablo Ortega, lanzador de los Venados de Mazatlán, se llevó el premio de Pitcher del Año en la temporada 2009-2010 de la Liga Mexicana del Pacífico.
Al darse a conocer a los jugadores más destacados de la campaña pasada, Ortega se llevó el galardón al mejor lanzador de la temporada pasada, en que fue uno de los artífices en llevar a los Venados a establecer el récord de seis Series Finales disputadas en años consecutivos.
El lanzador tamaulipeco se convirtió en el sexto lanzador de los Venados de Mazatlán en ganar el premio en las últimas 20 campañas, y en el primero del club desde la temporada 2003-04 en que lo hizo Francisco Campos.
Ortega, quien es el máximo ganador en la historia de los Venados con 62 triunfos, fue el líder de ganados en el rol regular de la campaña 09-10, al sumar ocho victorias, contra sólo dos derrotas, también fue el mejor en efectividad al quedar con 2.43 y el mejor en porcentaje de ganados y perdidos con .800.
El veterano lanzador de 13 temporadas en la Mexicana del Pacífico llegó a tener marca de 7-1 hasta el 27 de noviembre, tras sumar seis triunfos consecutivos. Sin embargo, en sus últimas cinco salidas tuvo marca de 1-1, con tres partidos sin decisión.
Su marca de 1-1 en los últimos cinco partidos no reflejó el trabajo que hizo en la loma, pues en cuatro de esos partidos los rivales quedaron con dos o menos carreras limpias anotadas por encuentro. Sólo en uno, le hicieron cuatro carreras merecidas.
Pablo tuvo una gran temporada en el Estadio Teodoro Mariscal, pues en nueve partidos iniciados acabó con marca de 5-1 y efectividad de 1.92, ya que los rivales sólo pudieron hacerle 12 carreras limpias en 56.1 entradas.
La gran actuación de Ortega se debió a que con corredores en posición de anotar los rivales le batearon para .190, al darle apenas 12 hits en 63 turnos para anotarle 20 carreras. Además, con corredores en posición de anotar y dos outs, le batearon .129, al pegarle 4 hits en 31 turnos, con tres carreras.
En las 85.1 entradas que tiró en total en la campaña, le dieron sólo cuatro jonrones y tres de ellos fueron sin corredores en las bases. Su mejor episodio en las 14 aperturas fue la cuarta entrada, en que tuvo una efectividad de 0.69 en 13 lanzadas.
Ortega es el sexto lanzador de Venados en ser el Pitcher del Año en la Mex-Pac desde 1990-91, después de Aarón Acosta, Juan Manuel Palafox, Blaine Beatty, Eleazar Mora y Francisco Campos.
Acosta se llevó el premio en la temporada 1994-95 como relevista, en que fue el líder de efectividad de la Mex-Pac con 1.69 y terminó con marca de 7-1, aunque no tuvo el mejor porcentaje de ganados y perdidos ya que Isidro Márquez terminó con marca invicta de 8-0. Acosta ponchó a 46 en 58.2 entradas en 22 partidos.
En la temporada siguiente, otro lanzador de Venados, repitió con el premio ya que Palafox acabó como líder en efectividad con 1.29, además de marca de 7-3. Palafox fue también líder en juegos completos con 7, innings lanzados con 98 y colíder en ganados con 7 en 14 partidos, con 12 aperturas.
El tercer pitcher en ganar el premio y por tercer año seguido –Mazatlán es el único equipo que ha tenido al mejor lanzador en tres años seguidos–fue el estadounidense Beatty, quien en 1996-97 fue el líder en triunfos con nueve en 14 aperturas.
Beatty debutó esa temporada con los Venados y fue líder de blanqueadas con tres, sublíder de efectividad con 1.73 y segundo en entradas lanzadas con 99, un tercio menos que el líder, además de sumar 55 ponches, la quinta mejor cifra de la liga.
En la campaña 2000-01, el zurdo Mora fue el cuarto venado en llevarse el premio al terminar como líder de efectividad con 1.45 en 12 partidos iniciados, en que acabó con marca de 7-3 y tuvo 74.1 entradas lanzadas. Fue sublíder de triunfos y colíder de blanqueadas con una.
En el 2003-04, Campos se llevó el premio al ser líder de efectividad con 2.19, en 90.1 entradas lanzadas en que ponchó a 68. En 14 aperturas terminó con marca de 10-2. También fue el líder en triunfos, entradas lanzadas, ponches y fue superado en el porcentaje de ganados y perdidos por su compañero Ortega quien tuvo .900 al acabar con marca de 9-1.
